Kanto Lampo Waterfall
Stunning, wide, and surrounded by a lush tropical forest, Kanto Lampo Waterfall Ubud is arguably one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Bali. At 15 meters tall, the waterfall cascades over impressive jagged rocks.
With different shapes and contours, the rock formation creates a dramatic step-like appearance, making every angle so photogenic. It’s no surprise this tourist attraction has become one of the most famous destinations for those looking for the perfect Instagram shot.
At the base of this photogenic waterfall, you will find a small shallow pool that is not quite enough for a deep swim. Nevertheless, you can still get refreshed by dipping your feet in the pool or simply standing under one of the cascades to feel the cool spray on your skin.
Like most waterfalls in Indonesia, you will need to walk down a series of steps from the parking area. Though a bit steep and slippery, it’s a short journey (around 5 minutes) that takes you through dense trees. However, the hike back up might take longer if you are not used to daily exercise or have bad knees.
All in all, it’s a combination of a concrete staircase, dense greenery, intertwined roots, and Balinese carvings covered with moss. If you are lucky, you will even be treated to rainbows in the water spray. It’s absolutely an enchanting sight.
Once you reach the waterfall, you will be rewarded with a mesmerizing view, making you feel like you have stepped into a postcard. With the sound of the water cascading down the rocks, it will be pure bliss.

1. Take a Refreshing Dip
The pool at the bottom of Kanto Lampo Waterfall is not deep enough for swimming. But a refreshing dip is a must, especially after the walk.
The pool is certainly large enough to splash or just wade around between the rocks. And the best part is you can have the rest of the river to yourself, as most visitors come for the shot under the cascades.
There is also an artificial pool where you can cool down and soak up the natural beauty around you. Just be sure to watch your step because the rocks are slippery and you might lose your footing.
2. Take Cool Photos
There is no doubt that Kanto Lampo Waterfall is beautiful. That’s why it’s an ideal spot for photos and nature lovers. The unique rock formation, combined with the cool mist from the cascades and lush green surroundings, makes a perfect backdrop for stunning photos.
But here is the thing. This tourist attraction gets so crowded that you will be dodging people left and right. To top it all off, the queue to the staircase-like cascades is insane. Be prepared to wait in line for a minimum of 30 minutes to 1 hour. Even worse, the waiting time can stretch up to 3 hours if you go later in the day.
When it’s your turn, just climb on the rocks carefully and get under the water. There are local photographers on site to help you pose and take great photos. Of course, tips are required, but there are no fixed charges. It depends on how much you want to give them.
3. Relax & Enjoy Nature
If you are done queuing up to get cool photos or just want to skip the line, why not relax and simply enjoy nature? Even though there are lots of visitors, be prepared to be captivated by Kanto Lampo’s natural beauty. Its cool fresh water, picturesque surroundings, and serene atmosphere totally deserve a special spot on your Bali trip.
For a good view, you can walk down the stream, cross a wooden bridge, and then walk up the hill. After passing by a cave, you will finally witness the majestic view of Kanto Lampo with no line.
As a bonus, you will most likely spot a few offerings or even witness the locals performing their rituals. Overall, your trip will be a magical blend of nature, culture, and adventure.

1. Visit in the Morning
Visit early in the morning, so there will be enough room to not feel super crowded. This way, you can find a quiet spot to soak up the natural beauty. The best time–for a quieter experience–will be before 09.00 AM, preferably around 07.00-07.30 AM.
And, of course, it’s best to avoid weekends and public holidays as the waterfall will get so busy. Alternatively, you can come just before the closing hours. There will not be many people around and the light will be less intense, but it’s no less impressive.
In addition to that, make sure not to come after heavy rain. The current usually gets stronger, and the water turns cloudy brown.
2. Wear Comfortable Shoes
Hiking sandals or water shoes are ideal for a visit to Kanto Lampo Waterfall. The path is slippery and muddy near the end of the trail, you need to cross the river, and the river has a sandy bottom with pebbles. You can also opt to wear flip-flops.
3. Bring a Change of Clothes
Kanto Lampo Waterfall will make you very wet and cold. Not only from the splash, you also have to wait in the water while waiting for your Instagram shot.
So, be sure to wear your bathing suit, and bring a towel and some dry spare clothes. And, you also need to carry a waterproof phone case and a dry bag to store your cameras, phones, and other items, as the splash is no joke.
