Lombok never runs out of beautiful beaches and island escapes. Even so, some travelers prefer something quieter. That is why they often head inland toward the slopes of Mount Rinjani.

Tucked among lush tropical forests and volcanic cliffs, Mangku Sakti Waterfall offers a completely different face of Lombok. It’s raw, peaceful, and surprisingly untouched.

The Mangku Sakti Lombok waterfall is situated at the foot of Mount Rinjani, approximately 1,000 meters above sea level near Sajang Village, Sembalun. This area is engulfed with dense forest, volcanic rock formations, and fresh mountain air that remains cool throughout the day.

But the main attraction of Mangku Sakti Waterfall Lombok is its striking blue-green water. The color comes naturally from sulfur minerals that trickle down from the Rinjani volcanic area. Unlike typical waterfalls, the water here can feel warmer due to geothermal activity beneath the mountain.

Locals believe the mineral-rich water can help relax tight muscles and soothe mild skin conditions. It hasn’t been scientifically proven, but soaking in the natural pools after the short trek feels exceptionally refreshing.

Beyond its natural splendor, Mangku Sakti Waterfall Sajang is also popular for its local folklore. Locals believe the area was once used by a spiritual figure named Mangku Titi Kastura for meditation.

The name “Mangku Sakti” itself loosely translates to “powerful hermit,” adding a mystical feel to the destination.

Reaching the waterfall requires some effort, but the journey is the most vital part of the adventure itself.

From Lombok Airport

If you arrive at Lombok International Airport in Praya, it will take approximately 3 to 4 hours to cover about 100 kilometers. Most travelers typically follow the Mataram-Sikur-Sembalun route before proceeding to Sajang Village.

The roads are mostly paved and accessible, but as you get closer to the mountain area, the last parts get a bit steeper and more winding.

From Mataram

If you stay in Mataram, you can reach Mangku Sakti Waterfall Lombok in around 3-4 hours by car or motorbike. The route you will take passes through Narmada, Terara, Sikur, and Sembalun before reaching Sajang.

After arriving at the parking lot, you will need to continue with a light trek through dirt paths for about 15-20 minutes. Please note that the trail can be really slippery during the rainy season, so it’s recommended to use proper footwear.

You may consider staying at Bobocabin Gunung Rinjani in Sembalun because the waterfall is only 10-15 minutes away.

A little preparation can make your trip smoother and more enjoyable.

Visit During the Dry Season

The best time to visit is between May and October. This is because during dry months, the trekking path is much safer and the turquoise water becomes more vibrant.

Avoid visiting during the wet season because heavy rain can make trekking paths muddy, and there’s also a risk of stronger currents.

Bring Spare Clothes

Consider bringing extra clothes, towels, and slip-resistant sandals to make your experience much more comfortable.

Consider Hiring Local Riders

Local motorcycle taxis can save you a lot of walking time and guide you through the safest route. Besides, they also know the best photo spots around the area.

Carry Cash and Snacks

Food stalls near the site are limited, so carrying drinking water, light snacks, and small cash is highly recommended.

Stay Careful Around the Water

Some natural pools at the site can reach depths of several meters, and currents can be much stronger after rainfall. So, please avoid cliff jumping, and if you take your little ones with you, supervise them carefully.
